The event attracted a wide selection of guests from various parts of Cork who witnessed the amalgamation of the long established Ambassador Hotel Cork, the Oriel House Hotel & Leisure Club & Spa in Ballingcollig, and the Waters Edge Hotel in Cobh, under the ownership of William & Angela Savage. It was also announced on the night that the Group had just acquired the Charleville Park Hotel as well. I must say, the hosts certainly knew how to make their guests feel at home with some fabulous food and a great selection of wines. The staff behaved in kind and moved through the crowd with military precision, tending to every empty glass, napkin and plate. A Barber-Shop Quartet was also on hand to provide entertainment, and laughter could be heard coming from every corner as all present were in high spirits. A large notice board showing plans for future alterations and expansion at the Waters Edge was also on display. I her address to those gathered, Mayor Noirin Doyle welcomed the Luxury Hotel Group to Cobh, and correctly observed that it was a great vote of confidence in Cobh and its future that such a big Hotel Consortium should choose to locate in our twon. She spoke of many positive things that were happening in Cobh at present and looked confidently to further success in the future, particularly with progress of the town's long awaited Marina. Mayor Doyle's sentiments were later echoed by speakers representing the hotel group, who indicated the belief that they had a long and prosperous future ahead of them in Cobh.
