I was at St. Colman's Park yesterday for a cracking game between Cobh Ramblers and Monaghan United in the Eircom League of Ireland First Division with Ramblers going on to win 2-1 in the end.

The win could have been even greater if two penalties hadn't been missed and the ball hadn't hit the cross bar a few minutes from the end.

Well done to all the lads, especially Davin O'Neill who scored the 2 goals. Let's keep fingers crossed that they hold out in their final match against Athlone next Saturday and they can go into the Premier Division for the next season.

I was there yesteday also with my camera. Caught the action of the first peno and to be honest, the rambler player was brought down outside the box (justice was served there). I was also behind the Monaghan goals when Davin O' Neill (son of Paul and nephew of Frank) blasted the second peno off the crossbar. He was very unlucky not to have got a hatrick, hopefully he will next week when it really counts. Great to see the crowds are back supporting ramblers again. The echo coming out of the new covered stand was brilliant and must be a great inspiration to the players. Does anyone know who that announcer over the P.A system was? The guy with the semi English accent. Every time a goal was scored, he kept calling Davin O'Neill a Hit-man. Surely such talk is slanderous! -Alright Mike ! All roads lead to Atlone next Saturday!

Announcer? I was probably over the other side - on the new stand. I could barely hear the announcer especially with all those kids dancing on the steel floor of the stand to make a racket. Agree with you about the first penalty, it was definitely an iffy decision but who's complaining?

A few of my friends came down from Cork along with a lot of City supporters. They had a weekend without a game so that swelled the crowd and a lot of them want Cobh to be promoted for a bit of local action. It would be good for Ramblers too - financially and otherwise, especially with the odd local derby.

Kieran

I agree, The last local derby between them that I remember was a cup game here in Cobh about a year ago. Ramblers won that one. I agree with you about all the benifits if they make it up to the premiership. They got planning permission for a new stand on the northern side only a few weeks ago.
Still like to know who's the announcer guy with the funny accent -Mike Lynham?

He was nothing other than 'Pure Class' let me tell ya!! Only problem doing that is you have to wait till after the game for a pint. I was somewhat parched throughout the game.

:D :D :D :D Well done to Cobh Ramblers for winning last night's FAI Eircom League First Division title in Athlone and winning promotion to the Premier League. Congratulations to the team and all who sailed in her, especially Kevin Murray who scored the winning goal in the 73rd minute.

I wasn't at the match but hopefully we'll get a full report later from those who were there.

It's time for Cobh to party now and I want to be the first to call for a parade in town for the team and their new silverware.

Kieran

Dont worry Ned, it does on Inside Cobh. I called the Mayor to order yesterday morning and we have agreed to organise a public parade through the town on Saturday. It will finish up at Town Hall where the boys will be afforded a civic reception!

Victory Parade is now brought forward to 1pm on Saturday as the 3 pm slot would have clashed with the Ireland/Wales game!

Ned Kelly
15-11-2007, 09:18
Ireland/Wales game??? The end of a best forgotten journey into the bygone years of irish crap football, The Ramblers should be the ones given the top spot as they are actually winners! Ramblers woulda beaten cyprus no feckin worries!

Was going to bring the video camera Katy and post a short clip on Youtube, then stick a link to it on this page. I'll probably bring the ordinary camera too but it's kind of difficult to use two cameras at once:D

The weather is looking rather ominous this morning with black clouds over the town and harbour, seagulls circling low and wind picking up. Forecast is for very heavy rain for the next day or two at least. There were a few drops overnight but it's dry at the moment but I suspect that won't last very long. It would be nice if it held off until after the victory parade but that looks unlikely. Better bring the rain mac just in case.

Hi Fulla, keeping fingers and toes crossed you get blue sky and warm trade winds over Cobh today....aaahh!! Its the same at home when a special event is planned at this time of year......truly I hope r**n stays away.
Look forward to any pics you can take of parade and post on site cheers , ahh!! wish I was in Cobh to see parade myself....
Forcast is not looking good at all for weekend, I am being spoilt tonight....Music Concert at the 'Customs House' its a Prize winning Colliery Band playing, ahh!! Katy being nostalgic..love the Brass bands. Then its off for a meal with friends....so its brolly in bag just in case....;)

Certainly no sign of sunny skies or warm trade winds in Cobh today but thankfully the rain did hold off until the parade ended. About two hundred (my estimate) brave souls turned up in gale-force winds and black skies for the parade. As I mentioned I brought the video camera and got a fair bit of footage of the parade and the revellers as they marched from the old town hall to the current town hall. Had the digital camera in my pocket but didn't get much on it. Perhaps someone else can post a few pics.

I'll edit the video after I have a bite to eat and I will post it up on Youtube with a link to this forum so you will get to see the parade Katy!

Enjoy your meal.

I've made a short video of this afternoon's Cobh Ramblers victory parade which you can view by clicking the link below.

I tried to embed this video into the page so that it could be watched without having to leave the CobhNet forum but it wouldn't accept the html coding. To watch the video click on the link below

or perhaps someone in the know could embed it for me please.

Well done John -I like the 'Carrignafoy Productions' bit. Your no longer a blow-in but part of the furniture now! The vidoe makes the streets look bigger than they are. A bit of sun would have made that look very attractive for tourists!

and an occasional look at the viewfinder too - half of the shot had to be edited out because it only showed people's feet - and the lens fogged up because of the bad weather - but not a bad job altogether I suppose.

Maybe you had a look at a few more of my videos on Youtube - all can be accessed from the same link - I have about 20 now - most of them about Cobh and environs. Take a look at "Cobh in Pictures" - it features about 100 photos I took in Cobh over the last 2 years, set to some traditional Irish music.

Just some wailing bagpipes Kieran. Sorry, in fairness to St. Colman's Pipe Band they were blue with the cold practicing for an hour before the kick off and there was a wind blowing that would shrink any sporran.
