My experience with this property took place in:
July, 2007
Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend? probably not
I recommend this hotel for:
I do not recommend this hotel for: An amazing honeymoon
I selected this hotel because ... Outdoor / Adventure, Great food / Wine
My age: 25-34
Traveling group: Spouse / significant other
My visit was for: Romantic getaway
Just got back from a 2 night weekend break at the Commodore in Cobh. It was a mixed experience with good and bad and to be honest most of the previous posts were pretty accurate. To sum up the good things were:
- Good location right on the front overlooking great harbour views
- Helpful and polite staff
- Great bar and lovely food (mostly) in the restaurant
- Huge bathroom.
The bad things were:
- Car parking - you have to buy a disc from the local shops to park out the front on the street (except Sunday), or park in a tiny and not very nice area at the back of another bar (only space for about 15 cars though)
- NIghtclub is next door, adjoining
- Live band played inside hotel on Saturday night til late - seemed like they only got going around 10-11 - and we could hear the noise through earplugs (we were tired from a big night out on the friday!)
- Some areas of hotel are very shabby and in need of TLC
- Pool is straight from the 1970s with very grim changing rooms and dirty looking pool tiles
- Strange function room you have to walk through to get to pool looks like something out of The Shining !
- Rooms overlook not very nice area unless you pay 15 euro per night for a sea view
Overall, we wouldn't stay again and most definately would not pay the hotel rates of approx 90 euro EACH person for this kind of run down hotel. We didn't mind too much as we got a cheaper deal. Also, Cobh is not a great place to stay and like the hotel is quite run down and shabby.
