View Full Version : Whats the Latest Films in Ireland
Hi Everyone.....Whats the latest Films being shown in Ireland at the moment....any good ones....
Its been a long while since I managed to get to the flicks......seats are not as comfy as years ago......ahh!! cheers Katy:)
Took the little one to see shrek 3 the other day, but shes not quiet ready for the big screen yet. She wrecked the cinema with popcorn!
Just Popcorn......ahh!!! last time I took a load of nephews...neices....and other kids to the flicks.....it was...........
Popcorn......Cola ......Crisps.....Chocolate.....Ice Cream....more Cola...........ahh!! Katy going green:D and this was after I had taken them for a MacDonalds.....eee!! by gum .....the next birthday party to organise I got half the family elders to help.....and that even cost me....Tea and Bacon Sarnis...lol...:)
Remember the days when a kids Party was Jelly and Custard.......Pineapple Chunks if you were lucky and a bit of Brown Bread........Sssssssshhh..... Katy now goes into hiding if anyone ask for volunteers to help out........cheers Katy:)
Harry Potter, Simpsons movie, shrek the Third, Die hard 4.0.... only know cause I just checked the listings for HP!
Friends told me that a Harry Potter film was on TV , maybe last week.....I wonder if Films are as good as the books......cheers Katy:)
went to see harry potter the other nite, it was brilliant. they did have to cut a good bit from the book to make the new film...it would have been 4 hours long if they hadnt!! i enjoyed reading all the books and i really think the films did well in reflecting the story. Rowlings writing is v discribtive and the films captured what she wanted everyone to imagine. big thumbs up from me!
Loved Shrek 3 aswell, have heard others saying it wasnt as good as the other 2, but i think the hype surrounding it made peoples expectations a bit high.
And finally, cant wait for the Simpsons!! have seen the ads for it and it looks hilarious
As ye can see from the above....im a bit CHILD lol :p :p
Hi Shell......hows things with you? I have been over to Cobh and back home since you last posted....ahh!! any gossip ....lol pass it on.....:)
I think you will realise Katy is 49 again lol.....well I have one friend the same age, and when she wants to see the likes of Harry Potter or other cartoon films.....lol...She asks her neighbour if she can borrow the kids, so their parents get a night off.....(romancing....;) well thats what I think..lol) and then my Friend takes the Kids to the pics.....
She says it costs her a fortune in sweets etc....lol....but she says its worth it.....ahhhhh!!! crafty or what.......cheers Katy:)
Saw Harry Potter last night, I thought it was the best yet. Much darker than the others, and more adult, but it was excellent.
I loved Shrek 3 Shell, I thought it was way better than Shrek 2. I'm a sucker for animated movies!
bringing kids with you does serve as a good excuse to go to things urself and act a bit childish!!:p we really are terrible users us adults lol!
My daughter is nearly 4 now and i nearly burst with excitment when i find out another classic Disney film is coming out. just last week i bought her Alice in Wonderland and Finding Nemo. She loves Alice but not 2 bothered with Nemo yet, so when she told me she was bored watching Nemo i nearly cried cos i had to turn it off lol. i honestly think i have ever special edition of the disney flicks thats been re-released at this stage, our collection is impressive and my bank balance is feeling the effects!
Oh and another way i "use" my daughter is to bring her to places like Chuckies or Monkey Maze (they are indoor play areas - slides, ball pool, etc, just thought id explain for Katy who prob has never had reason to visit those places on her trips). U just pay for the kids and the adults can have as much fun as they want lol :D
Ahhhh!!! Now that sounds like a great idea....Shell.....so the Adults can mess about with the kids and laugh about.....brilliant.....cheers and thank for sharing the info.....Katy:) :)
I know what you mean Shell! My little one is only justed turned one, so I have been renting friends kids to go to the cinema. But she is just getting to the age where she loves places like Monkey Maze, she is still obviously too small for the activities, but she loves tearing around after the other kids!
Plus as you say, its nice to have the little ones occupied while we enjoy a coffee!! Now that's priceless!
Hi guys, that Monkey maze place is away too big i think. It's like an ayslum. Much prefer Chuckies. Alot easier to keep an eye on whats happening! Cobh is screaming out for something like that, the old dockyard would be a good location too!
Saw Soldier Blue again last night Ned. The special effects were very dated (1970) but still a great story!

Monkey Maze is huge all right. Have never been to Chuckies, I guess my little one is still a bit small. Also the parking is ridiculous in MM- I've seen blood almost being spilt a few times!
You are right there firefly. I was there with my little one about a month after it opened first. I met a detective who once served in Cobh there with his kids. Later when we were leaving from the carpark, I noticed that a guard in the local squad car had pulled up on the entrance footpath to chat to the detective. They didnt seem to mind that they were blocking trafic coming in and out nor the fact that speeding artic trucks were passing on the nearby main road behind them. It is lethal and i hate to think what would happen if a kid ran out there!

Yeah Candices Bergins boobs made the film for me!!!:p
LOL.........:) Candice....Dolly......I get the feeling a pattern is starting to show....lol.....so our Ned like wholesome ladies.....ahh!! good to see your feeling better...:) cheers Katy
Firefly you should take ur little one to chuckies, much more suited to her age, and ive heard great things about lumpy land over near monkstown. have never been there but my daughter went there with her playschool and she thought it was brill. Lumpy Land is designed for kinds under 6 so u dont have the older ones tearing around the place!!
i agree with the parking issue in MM, crazy! we were up there about 3 weeks ages and saw a young fella get a split head, my boyfriend knows his dad and the poor child had to get 5 stitches across his forehead so that kinda put me off a bit!!
it would be fab to have one in cobh, sure whenever you go to one of the places you meet half of cobh there anyway!!!
Hi Shell...some great ideas you have posted....drop a line to your local papers and councillors.....you never know....what may turn up.....:)
Hope all is well..suns just came out over my place.....lol...not sure if I am dreaming....lol.....blessings Katy:)
Sometimes I feel as well that paying €7 for your child to play for an hour is a bit steep...I know we don't get the weather here for a lot of outdoor play etc... but if you want an hours peace once or twice a week it is a bit much, especially with more than one child. Having said that, I'm not up to date with these places (yet!) so maybe those of you that use them feel its good value?
I'm comparing it to places that I have been in France, and other European Countries. We visited a fantastic aquarium and play park in france, and it was €7.50 for a child, but that was for as long as it took to visit around the aquarium and see the shows and play for as long as the child wanted...you would easily spend a whole day for €7.50 per child. We don't have those facilities here at all.
We also went to the most amazing science museum in Hong Kong...a childs wonderland. Every single item was interactive...it was one of the most incredible places I've ever been. We were there from opening til closing time, and we paid $30HK, the equivalent of less than €3:eek:
Just made me think we have little or no facilities like that here....oh well an excuse to go back I suppose!
Morning Firefly....like Shell you have raised some very good issues....and when you think about it, I bet a lot more mums feel the same as you do, regarding facilities and cost.
I wonder if a questionaire or survey has ever been done, asking young parents for ideas etc....its worth a thought...starting with letter to local papers and how about the Cobh Magazine......cheers Katy:) :)
Wouldnt it be great if instead of more pubs and even restaurants, some one with money invested in one of the big empty sheds at the Dockyard to build one of those play areas!
Hear, Hear Kieran and Katy! I suppose these things only become issues when you have kids...my other pet peeve is people with no kids parking in the parent and child spaces- this happens all the time in Super Valu, and it really gets on my nerves. When my DD was a baby, if it was pouring rain I'd be dashing over to SV, all the P&C spaces would be full, and I'd be parked miles away, making a dash for the shop when I'd spot someone dashing out of the hairdressers to their car parked in the P&C space, just to save their hair from getting wet:mad:
I was going into SV the other day to do my groceries, and DHL had their huge van parked across the disabled spaces:eek: I mentioned it to the manager when I went in, but when I was leaving well over 45 mins later, it was still there...I couldn't believe it.
OK rant over!
firefly i share your pet peeve about supervalu!! it soooo annoying! in fairness its not like theres a shortage of spaces in the carpark, the left hand side is almost always empty. im sure ppl panic if they arent parked within 5 foot of the door. my mother goes mad over it, she said she would LOVE to be a clamper down there :p .
i was down in midleton the weekend and parked in Tescos, went and did my bits and pieces while the sun was shining, but by the time i was leaving it had started to rain quite heavily. so as i was pulling out of the space there was this wan behind me trying to get in even before i got out!! she was terrified someone else would take the space!!!! but because some donkey decided to park right in front of the main door (on double yellow lines i might add) i couldnt swing the car around to get out. so i had one tool behind me and another infront. If it hadnt been rainin i would have gotten out of the car lol!!
Now , now you two will have to join Mage Simpson at the road rage school if you're not careful. Good point about the empty carpark at Supervalu though. Just imagine if those business heads developed that left hand side into an partically enclose basketball/soccer court for the public of the town, they'd more than likely have alot more people shopping in their store. I happen to know that there are big grants available for such projects!
LOL......go girls.....:) go girls...:) ..you give the store manager a touch of the old Irish..with a letter saying you intend to report him not doing anything to as many Disabled Groups as possible.....Kieran you have the camera ready.....those parking in Disabled Bays or Bays set aside for Parents, need to be told its wrong.
We had a few years ago a very similar problem....Katy and a few friends...some who are disabled...took to the streets with our cameras....oooohh!!! some of the drivers were very....oohh!! **** ahh!! when we said we were going to pass on evidence ..to local papers/police/and Council Official for Disabled.............peace total peace after a few weeks....lol.....cheers Katy:)

Whatever happened to supporting the local shops??
No wonder Midleton is doing well when Cobh folk are shopping there!!!
Question Ned! You are in the transport business. Would you buy a van locally if you could buy the same one for half the price in the next town? More to the point, would you not be justified in going to the next town for your van if the small local garage didnt stock the one you wanted? Its called the real world Ned. I was at a funeral in Ballincollig on monday, a once one horse town 10 years ago. I was gobsmacked to see the changes there, as in Carrigtwohill and Midleton. It just brings it home of how Cobh is left behind in the stone-age. No investment and political imput. All those who have come to live in Cobh in recent years wouldnt dream of shopping here and who could blame them? Who can blame the locals for trying to stretch their own weekly shopping funds by going where they are cheapest, and we are not talking about pennies here!
I do like to support local business' when i can, but when your food shop increases from week to week you have no choice but to shop where its cheaper. for instance, my grandfather is in his late 70's and he has the same few bits to buy each week, his list rarely changes. and since graveys have taken over supervalu theres been an increase of at least a tenner....and its a small list!! now that mightnt seem much to you or me but to a pensioner its a lot. even before garveys took over, supervalu wasnt the cheapest of places to shop but because it was on our doorstep and a local man was running it, it felt great to be supporting the business. i dont think theres loyalities to one particular place anymore like there was a few yrs ago.....you go where its cheaper for the ass pocket!!
I agree on the price increases since Garvey's took over...I think we may be paying for all their revamping. I try to support local when I can, I always buy my petrol in Londis or Ticknock, I use the post office in the town, I use the fruit and veg shop when possible, but I'm on the road a lot with work so its not always possible.
I must admit I probably frequent Tesco in MP the most. The underground car park is very handy with a baby. Keeps the car cool in the sun (ha!) and shelter from the rain. Also they have a huge variety of products and a great baby section. I've noticed massive price differences between SV and Tesco and Dunnes, despite the report on todays news.
I believe the SV meat has gone downhill as well. I was home last weekend and got a leg of lamb. Paid 15.00 euro for it and I swear, there was barely enough for two of us. All fat and bone. Herself had a bit of a whinge next time she was there as got no satisfaction whatsoever. No apology or 'Jeez. Sorry about that. You should have brought it straight back'. Now, in the past, if she were to complain to Eamonn about that she'd have had a whole new leg of lamb straight away with no fuss.
James Cahill has some great bargains lately including meat!

Well I was put in me place pretty quick there, fair dues to yez!
Seems to be a catch 22 situation in Cobh, folk would like to buy local but won't or can't because of the price difference. Why are things cheaper in Midleton than Cobh>? Profiteering? I can't see that, there won't be any profit if folk shop elsewhere, what about the product ?Is it better quality in Cobh?
No real answers here, How about a loyalty programme, bring back the green shield stamps? Spend 100 bucks and ya get a 5 dollar voucher! Free delivery! Free xmas hamper if you shop all year around locally or spend a certain amount!
Just a thought K did you ever think about delivering *Inside Cobh* door to door, Might be worth payin some schoolkids to deliver it and make it a part of everyones weekly read!
Anyways thats enough of aul tripe outa mise!
and ya get a 5 dollar voucher
wouldn't be of much use here though Ned!!
Dollars, euros or pounds -need alot more than 5 to impress folk these days! Sold the mags door to door in all weathers myself Ned when we started out. Eventually, people said it just as easy to get it in the shops, and so they have! The reason why people go to Midleton, Douglas and Cork to shop Ned, is because the Big multinational stores are there, and they are the ones who can sell cheaper than the small stores. They also have the bigger variety of products. Competition!

Ah well so much for my offering!!!
What you were suggesting was fine and noble ned, but for it to work, everyone would need to be thinking on the same wavlength. That sort of loyalty can never survive the challenge of the big money machines!
Which one of you smart arses gave me the Donald Duck makeover? lol
Aaaaaaahhhhhh!!!
Ooooooohhhhhh!!!
Everyone hide, Kierans saw the avatar on his space....
To be sure I think it was those pesky Leprechauns.....lol;) ;)
