There was elation on the field and in the stands at Parramatta Stadium tonight (5/11/08), as the Ireland Wolfhounds scored there biggest win in their history in downing Samoa 34-16.

The win sees the Wolfhounds into the semi-final play-off on the Gold Coast on Monday, a feat few observers believed they were capable of achieving.

Wolfhounds coach Andy Kelly said the performance was undoubtedly a career highlight.

"I've had some good times as a player and a coach, but in terms of international football that would have to be the biggest and the best.

"We learned our lesson from the Tongan game and came out tonight a little bit stronger and little bit wiser. It was a massive effort, the pride I feel at the moment, I'm just about busting", Kelly said.

Parramatta junior Pat Richards enjoyed a happy homecoming scoring three tries and kicking five goals. He too described the win as one of the best moments of his career.

"Tonight's right up there. We were outstanding tonight. We just believed in each other, not just the 17 but the entire squad, it was just a very special effort.

"We've got some great players in this side, they don't really get enough credit, but they might now.

It will be a tough ask on Monday, but with the spirit is this team I sure we'll be up for it", Richards said.

Does that mean the Rams are relegated and bankrupt?

Yip -back to the first division and god forbid, maybe to the Munster Senior League!

It's a pity they don't give you two years in the Premier league when a team is promoted - the first year can be a bit daunting for teams which one minute are winning all around themselves and suddenly find themselves to be small minnows in a pond of sharks. A two-year term would give teams a better chance to find their feet - but it would also mean two year's guaranteed at the bottom if they're relegated.

Its not sour grapes as whats done is done, But there was some terrible refereeing decisions made against Ramblers througout the season, leading to the earlier claim that the FAI never wanted small teams like Cobh in the premier league. Looking back now, all those bad and missed penalty decisions and offside decisions when players were definately on side, should have Ramblers about half way up the league table!

R-Union Ire beat Canada 55-0 but I suppose Cobh Pirates could have as easily done the same job!
