View Full Version : Connolly -everyones friend now!
Fulla, I know your up in the big smoke at the mo, but since you have your lap-top with you, perhaps you'll give this a gander in between work. Had a visit from another councillor yesterday to warn me that another was making moves behind the scene to hijack the connolly apology move. I think you will know who he is talking about. My main priority now is to get admiral whitty to move fast while he is still Mayor, otherwise it will be lost and the othercrowd will take it over. With all hes flaws, I know he would always insist that credit goes where it is due. Paddy Histon already fired a shot across their bows at the meeting and told them to back off as they had since 1911 to do something about it. The evening echo had a nice piece on wednesday night "Cobh to Apologise to Connolly" with big photo of him. It also said with a hint of humour, that Danny Crowley always carry's a picture of Connolly in his wallet. See what you can do there with what we discussed earlier Fulla. Thanks!

Kieran I think your party needs to get on to RTE. According to the RTE Radio 1 news at 1pm today Gerry Adams and Mary Lou were quoted as attacking the No campaign, saying they had accused the No side in the Lisbon Treaty campaign of scaremongering. Obviously this was a misquote, but i wouldn't be at all surprised if it was a deliberate "mistake".
They need to get on to someone, Questions & Answers had 4 pro Lisbon on its panel last night. Not a Shinner to be seen but a token couple No campaigners in the audience. Thats what people pay their TV lincence and go to gaol for!
They had their chance to apologgise yesterday. The Big Yin was about the Town taking photos

Och Aye Da Noo!
Yip, he seems to have a thing about Cobh doesnt he. The last time he covered Cobh on his travelling show, he actually mentioned the James Connolly episode of 1911 but in a sort of piss-take way. Got a picture emailed last night of a couple of locals with him. A shop keeper was heard to say yesterday when asked if he saw him, "I could be looking at Colie Donnoghue and i might think its Billy Connolly"
Made contact with the Connolly family Fulla, they have asked for it in writing and will then consider it but it looks good. Whitty will be sorry to miss out as his mayorship is over on the 16th. (he will get to miss out on the twinning with paisley's place too!)

that's good Kieran. History has been made.
I briefed the council meeting last night about developments and it was plain to see there was a bit of backtracking. A couple had asked why I had issued an invitation to the Connollys to visit Cobh, that they thought it suficient just to write to the family and give them the apology in writing. They werent getting off with that though. I reminded them what was agreed at the previous months meeting, That I wrote and invited the Connollys to an official formal granting of a posthumous apology at Town Hall and that was exactly what they were going get!
