View Full Version : ESB wires spoiling Cobh's views

This may seem a little trivial but I have spoken to two photographers over the last few days complaining about the fact that obtrusive ESB wires around Cobh are spoiling otherwise great photos of St. Colman's Cathedral and other scenes.
I have experienced this myself. Just try standing at the Pier Head and taking a shot of the Cathedral and you'll know what I mean, and it's not just the wires on West Beach and the pier, though they are the worst. Similar problems arising trying to photograph West View and elsewhere.
Just look up "Cobh Cathedral" on Flickr.com and you'll see what I mean, lots of images ruined by these wires. I know it may not be a top priority, but we are a tourist town and need to present the town at its best. If litter is a problem, then so are ugly wires around our town. Put them underground.
Perhaps our councillors might take this up?

Those cranes will be on the other side of the harbour Ned. If you're taking a photo of Cobh town centre or the mouth of the harbour they won't get in the way.

No worries, you may be right there fulla, lets hope no one wants to take a snap of passage west, monkstown or ringa!
Hi Everyone.....gremlins been on pc, so this is a short message.....hope all is okay....regarding the Cathedral pics Fulla, I understand what your saying....but what can we do....now if we could learn a few tricks about airbrushing the wires out of sight.....oohh that would be great....lol.........come to think of it I have a few pics of yourstruly from a wedding a few years ago.....oohh!! I could airbrush them and end up looking ten years younger. Cheers Katy:)

I need a bit of practice with the airbrushing Katy. 'twould be easier if they removed the wires!:D
Your right about the wires around the Cathedral Fulla. I tried to take one of the old north german pier ruin from up near the cathedral-Rock recently and had to duck and dive to get one without the wires in the way. Mind you all those arguments came up some years ago when the anti-pylon campaign was in full swing. Once some people get paid off, it was all forgotten about again though!

Is Fulla a seer?
Looking at his artwork on the top of St.Colmans he might not be far off the mark!

Lets get a petition up!
Check out the picture on the front of this weeks mag fulla. I took it while travelling down the Barrack hill through the windscrene of the car. I didnt realise until it was actually printed on mag of the amount of electric cables that span the harbour from that view! Still a postcard picture though
I need a bit of practice with the airbrushing Katy. 'twould be easier if they removed the wires!:D
Hi Fulla, see your trying out some techno DIY on your pics, nice one.....What with a load of family social do's for weddings, engagement and anniversary parties.....oohh and a trillion photos taken.....I get the job of setting up the pc albums......they forget I am still a learner with technology....aahh!!:)
