The story on tonight's front page of the Evening Echo (24/04/08) is about District Court judge Michael Pattwell who said in the course of a court case that he had considered moving to Cobh but changed his mind because of the level of street crime in the town. Mr. Justice Pattwell had been delivering his verdict in the case of a man who had been involved in a serious fight at West Beach in the town.

What do you think?

Well he´s probably right. Back of the island is nice though.

Not too many tourists around the back of the island however.

He actually made that comment about 5 years ago, and merely repeated it more recently. The Echo needed a juices headline for sales!

That explains why a new lodge has been established at the Chamber Offices. Whitty will no doubt go one better and issue an invite to Mrs Windsor!

Ooohh!! and not one mention about a tyneside lass with irish roots who loves Cobh.....eehh!! by gum whats a wee lass to do....lol....:) and after promoting Cobh and its town folk....not even an offer of an irish coffee with the mayor......;) .....thats it 'Fulla ....Ned....Kieran....Mike....' start a petition.....lol......
And anyway who needs this judge....aagghh Cobh is better off without him.... Truly as a visitor to Cobh for a few years now I can say hand on heart, your young folk are great.....okay like we have here you have the odd one to cause problems....thats life...and it goes on all over.
If the fact be known we (us) must look at the senior members of our respected towns and ask........
'Are we setting a good example for the next generation.....' some senior folk 40plus have no patience sometimes and are downright pains in the butt............lol.....do you think I need to take less coffee on a morning....:) ((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))) from sunny tyneside, to all the folk in Cobh.....cheers Katy

My favourite story about Albert Reynolds is about the time he went to Limerick to open a new bus assembly factory for Bombardier (Irl) while he was Minister for Industry and Commerce. Described as the "Bus of the '80s", the Bombardier was hailed as a great development. Albert was invited to drive the first bus off the assembly line and bring it for a triumphant drive around Limerick. Unfortunately the bus wouldn't start for poor Albert because the battery had been drained during testing. So Bombardier staff had to bring Albert for another tour of the factory while they frantically replaced the battery. Then it came to time to break the obligatory bottle of champagne over the bus but when Albert flung it at the front of the bus it wouldn't break. He tried again and then hurled it with so much force that it broke in smithereens and soaked the Mayor of Limerick in champagne. Eventually the Bishop of Limerick said a quick prayer and the mechanics were finished so Albert hopped into the cab and drove the bus triumphantly out of the factory on the way to Bunratty for a big reception (p1ss up more like). Unfortunately a mile or two up the road the bus broke down and the entourage had to be transferred to Bunratty by car. I still don't think himself and John Major should get a civic reception however.

If I'm correct, wasnt the Bombardier type bus a big flop anyway?

Exactly. They were much better at building snowmobiles. Of course their big money spinner is still military airplanes.
