There was a huge fire last night in a four storey storehouse on the Irish Naval Base in Haulbowline, across the harbour from Cobh.
At least six units of the fire brigade from Carrigaline, Crosshaven and Cork City along with a Cork Port tug with water-cannons fought the fire which is still blazing but was brought under control around 1.00am this morning.
Last night I went down to the car-park beside the Five Foot Way between Cobh and Whitepoint to watch the fire across the harbour. Hundreds of onlookers had gathered on the quays of Cobh and watched as flames leaped high into the sky. The flames and smoke could be seen all over Cork's lower harbour.
