I had to write a headline like that to get your attention but I'm perplexed with a photo in this week's Inside Cobh which shows a dog defecating on a photo of Osama Bin Laden.

Now I can certainly understand where the dog was coming from when he dumped his load on the bearded one but I'm more concerned about the level of dog excrement around Cobh which was highlighted in the excellent article.

I have my own battle going on literally on my doorstep which has become a dog toilet - and I know the culprits! One of my neighbours has two small dogs which never seem to get taken for walks and are rarely outdoors - except for their twice daily toilet trip when they are left out to take a dump. The dogs seem to have some level of training as they never do it on their own doorstep - always coming up the street a few doors away to target myself and my next door neighbour. I have a high step outside my door and it seems to have some attraction as a bum-scraper for the canines so the bulk of the stuff gets dumped on or around my front door.

Whenever I leave the house or return home I have to watch my step and visitors have to be stopped at the front door for a footwear inspection as I have had the stuff brought in around the house several times by unsuspecting visitors.

I have tried Jeye's Fluid around the doorstep and it does deter the dogs but I would have to do it practically every day and the stuff isn't very environmentally sound.

Generally the dogs are left out early in the morning or late at night after dark and it is difficult to watch them without sitting out all night. What am I to do?

Youv'e got some eyesight John, I never spotted Bin laden on the ground. Angela downloaded from internet. As for the doggies on the doorstep, you cant beat a pot of water or the good old size 10's!

will try those suggestions but previous attempts have worked short term only. As for the chilli powder I have will try that but at the moment all I have is tabasco sauce - will stick some on the step tonight and see what happens. It might only attract some sausage dogs!

Ahh!! now the answer could be you get a loan of a couple of large dogs, just for a few nights....then when you hear the neighbours dog on your doorstep....just open the door and say helloooooo!! with your new houseguests.....it may just work....cheers Katy

PS, either that or a large tub of pepper around the step and path....:)
