Did anyone head to the Sheraton to see the exhibition of the (apparently) forthcoming new Cobh Road? Route looks OK to me although there are a few too many roundabouts for my liking (new bottlenecks?). The new section will be mostly dual carriageway. The road between IFI and Ballynoe will need serious upgrading though I think.
I have a copy of it infront of me and it does look good. I agree about the point you made regarding Marina Point. The problem there is it looks like you will now have a back access road to the near-by new golf course, so there may be no incentive by the county council to upgrade the remainder into town. Two things - the engineer at the last public consultation meeting told me that there is currently only approval to upgrade the Fota road onto the Great Island. Anything thats earmarked to happen later will be part of another phase later down the road (you know what that means). The other thing is the Town Council has sought a meeting with the Minister (Gormely) about the landslide situation in Cobh and the extension to the town boundaries. It may be a good opportunity to raise this road issue with him and move it on!

Yesterday's paper reports that the County Council is funding the Cobh road in 2009 to the tune of.......€50,000. I guess we won't be seeing any new road before 2010 then!
Every penny spent so far including the public consultation process was spent on Consultants and more paperwork. That €50,000 would probably pay for the tea breaks or placing the ads in the papers. They will probably spend another few grand in 2010 to notify the public that they havnt forgotten us!

they'll probably spend the €50,000 putting up a plaque telling us what great people they are. Some minister forever enshrined in bronze most likely.
pity the entrance to the Sheriton and golf course isnt at the belvelly side, the road would probably be a new motorway by now!
